Take a number and wait until you're called.

I love t-shirts. I have a fairly big collection of them. By this, I mean I probably own around 40 or so of them and add to the collection regularly. I know I’m not alone in my love of them either. My favourites are the band and gig t-shirts I’ve collected over the years. I don’t know if some of these are rare and frankly, don’t really care one way or the other. These are clothing and are meant to be worn, not doted over. (One of my current favourites is an Ecko brand t-shirt featuring a tribute to Jason “Jam Master Jay’ Mizell of Run DMC).

Over the Christmas period, I swapped a t-shirt with one of our lovely JoeUsers, Tova. I sent her a Maroubra Underground t-shirt (I live in a Sydney suburb called Maroubra) and she sent me an awesome Beaver Creek t-shirt. And this has spawned an idea.

I’d like to set up a t-shirt swapping register. The idea would be people register their name, where they’re from and a contact email address. Then others, once they’re registered, can peruse this list, contact one or as many of the names as they’d like and swap a t-shirt (or t-shirts, as the case may be). The idea would be to exchange a t-shirt one might otherwise never be able to find.

Yes, there are plenty of online t-shirt sellers but this register will not be trying to sell anyone anything. This is completely an honour system and will work only if those who register do the right thing. Anyone found not doing it will earn the ire of t-shirt lovers around the world and be stricken from the register.

Why am I telling you here? Because I’d like your opinion, my JoeUser friends and acquaintances. What do you think of the idea? Do you see any immediate problems? Do you see any better ways of doing this? Is there already something out there like this? Do you have any advice, options or blank cheques you’d like to provide?

Sounds like a great idea!  I collect Beer mugs, from around the world, but since I am on the wagon, I guess T-shirts will do.

I like the idea too.

You could use JU as your test site, and if it takes, go bigger?

As for the t-shirt you sent me.  I wore it a few weeks ago when it was warm (before our recent cold snap) and a lot of people were asking me about it.  heh.

I got to say my friend in Australia sent it to me.  They may or may not have been impressed, but I sure am!

I wear nothing but t-shirts. Everyone keeps telling me that I'll have to grow up some day and buy "professional grown up" clothes... but I'm holding out as long as possible.

I don't know if I 1. have any t-shirts I could willingly give up or 2. have t-shirts anyone else would want... but I look and if I do, I'm game.

I wear t-shirts often enough. Under my jackets or a shirt at work or at home as well. It's a good idea, an interesting one! Sign me up!

Wet?

Only when it rains.

Is the idea to give away a used t-shirt you currently wear or give away a local t-shirt with something unique to your area?

That was certainly the way I read it. Personally, I like that idea better.

It does make more sense. I wonder if I can find any good Toad Suck Days shirts to share...

OMG do you live near Toad Suck park?

Doc,

You don't need to put anything in the beer mugs to collect them, you know...

Tova,

I was thinking exactly as you suggested: see what sort of response I get here and if it works, go larger.

I wore it a few weeks ago when it was warm (before our recent cold snap) and a lot of people were asking me about it

Cool... I'm pleased to hear you're wearing it. I wear mine fairly regularly. I will have to get a photo of me in it.

but I sure am

Excellent. I pretty damned impressed too.

SHE,

The idea I had (and this answers Tex's question too) was to buy a t-shirt with something local on it (like Beaver Creek) OR if you have a cool second-hand t-shirt you don't wear anymore, pass it on. I sort of had this picture of the site in my head, with each person having their own section where they could put up photos of as few or as many t-shirts as they wanted to swap. This way, the swappers have a choice.

Serenity,

It's a good idea, an interesting one! Sign me up

I figured most people wear t-shirts so there is no reason why the idea wouldn't work. The trick is finding enough people to give it a go. I will sort out the details and let you know when it starts up. Thanks for wanting to be a part.

BlueDev,

Sounds like a cool idea

Thanks mate. Do you want to be a part of it when I get going?

Ennarath,

that IS a good idea

Thanks to you too. So, will I sign you up as well?

Tex,

See SHE's answer, but essentially, the idea would be either, depending on what the individual felt like doing. I think a lot of people, me included, would like something unique to the area of the person they're swapping with, though. Having a bunch of t-shirts from my friends around the world would be a great reminder of you all.

If you can, I want one BAD

Tex,

Is there really such a place as Toad Suck Park? The thought just cracks me up
