Take a number and wait until you're called.

The first time I came around
I learnt about pain
I learnt about pleasure
But I squandered the hours
The days, weeks, months and years
Gratifying the basest of my mortal desires

The second time I came around
I learnt about hubris
I learnt about humility
But I defied all I’d learnt
Became the product of my egotism
Preaching to all when I should have been silent

The third time I came around
I tried to be better
I tried to be simpler, purer
But I spent too much time
Congratulating myself for being good
I let vanity and pride overwhelm everything

The fourth time I came around
I yearned for paradise
Searched the world for it’s gates
I wasted an entire lifetime
Without ever finding the right path
When it was right behind me all the time

The fifth time I came around
I sat and watched the world
I let it drift pass my eyes and mind
Without feeling any sadness
Without feeling pity or anything else
Except a deep rooted, unexplainable smugness

The sixth time I came around
I learnt about anger
I learnt about passion
I raged at the powers that be
Ranted at the very moon and the stars
Without understanding where my anger lay

But the seventh time I came around
I recalled all I’d seen
Every excursion to the pit
I forgave myself all the wrongs I’d done
And I gave away all I had to lesser people
Then let the world take me away forever more

*A Lazarus Pit is a fictional natural phenomenon in the DC Comics universe. They are primarily found in the Batman titles and are commonly used by Ra's al Ghul for their restorative powers

So each time you go in and rejuvenate and rediscover and make chnages accordingly, we should all be so lucky in real life to be able to have that many chances. It's a great poem!

I was thinking reincarnation throughout this.

I like the building up aspect...it's a neat little device.

Good job, Maso.

Serenity,

rejuvenate and rediscover and make chnages accordingly

Exactly... As I was writing it, I was reminded of some of the Buddhist reading I've done in the past.

It's a great poem

Thanks very much.

Zoo,

reincarnation

Again, exactly. Its all about what we can learn and take with us. Or maybe it is about what we don't learn and take with us.

it's a neat little device

Tahnks mate. This actually took me some time to write as I knew what I wanted to say and how I wanted it to build. I'm glad you like it.

We should all be so introspectuve with our lives. Sometimes it aint so easy to adapt and adjust.

Good stuff as usual.

Kelly,

Sometimes it aint so easy to adapt and adjust.

Yes, aint that the truth. I guess the consequences of concentrating too hard on one area means others are neglected. And change can be a particularly hard thing to instigate in one's life when one is bound by habit.

Good stuff as usual

Thanks very much. Always good to 'see' you

Here I am late again to the party. Sigh...

But, I think maybe good timing, maybe sometimes you see things when you need to see them you know?

Anyway, brilliant work as usual Maso. Viva la The Detritus Of My Mind!!!

Roy,

The party is only ever on hold until you arrive, mate.

you see things when you need to see them you know?

I agree completely. Sometimes you just have to wait until things present themselves. Sometimes the waiting is the point too.

Thanks for your continued support, mate.
