Take a number and wait until you're called.

It has been months in the planning. In fact, it has been something I’ve been dreaming about for years. And this coming Saturday it is finally happening. This coming Saturday I have 8 hours of time booked in a great local recording studio to put down five tracks for my band’s first EP.

I have been working so hard getting everything ready, planning the sessions, rehearsing the songs over and over and over, organising the artwork, the website, copyright paperwork, distribution (which we’re still trying to sort out), launch shows etc. The list is just too bloody long consequently I really haven’t had time to think about the impending day itself.

But I’m excited. I’m having fun getting all the elements together and I have a good feeling about this project. Unlike just about everything else musical I’ve been involved in, this particular project seems to be coming together really organically and easy. I feel blessed to have had some truly wonderfully talented people become involved in this because they see it as a worthy venture. It makes me want to jump for joy, to whoop and holler from the highest building, dance a mad jig and shout it to the top. But I can’t just yet.

This next stage is crucial. We have to make every second of the time we have count. Some have said 8 hours won’t be long enough. Others have said 8 hours might be too much. Still others have questioned us paying to do this at all, given I’ve got a pretty good home studio. But we’re happy to be doing this and at the end of the day, this is all that matters.

Half the tracks are already recorded and ready to be loaded up into the ProTools suite at the studio. The band is about as rehearsed as we’re ever going to be (even though we are having a final rehearsal tomorrow evening). Time lines are prepared and printed; lists have been checked twice and twice again. We’re as ready as we’re ever going to be.

Thanks Doc, will do... Have a great weekend, mate.

Tis but Thursday nite for us!  But will do! Going to a 'Winter party' with my wife for her employer.  He is Jewish, so this is his Christmas party!

I hope you enjoy your second Christmas celebrations. Does it mean more presents for you and yours?

I'm surprised - I always thought you were an Aussie! I guess I was wrong.

I've only listened to the 'Everything Happens for a reason' track but it sounds good. I think it would be cooler with a female vocalist doing the 'everything happens' sample, if one's available cos it sounds a little flat with the guy you've got, but then again maybe that's just because wherever you recorded doesn't have studio accoustics.

One question though - Is it Christian hip-hop?

Kelly; thanks so much for your kind words and I will certainly let you know.

Cacto; I am an Aussie. What made you think I wasn't? The 'flat' guy is me We've actually got a lovely female vocalist who is doing the main part of the chorus etc. I sang on the demo because we had no one else at that stage.

One question though - Is it Christian hip-hop?

Definitely not... Do you think it comes across that way?

I thought you were lead vocals, who has a somewhat yankee rapping style. The christian hip-hop thing was from the name and also the first few words of one song that mentioned the word god or sth like that. JCronik, you see. I was just jumping to conclusions as usual.

The young guy I'm writing with is heavily influenced by American rap and hip hop, amongst other things. His rapping style is obviously affected by this. It has been a bit of a bone of contention with some people, but for most, it really is a non-issue.

As for the 'JC' tag, these are the young guys initials. It is actually a bit of a drug reference, as in J-chronical (to spell it correctly), a reverse way of saying 'chronical j' (j being a euphemism for joint - sorry if I stating the obvious). And no, he's not into drugs anymore. He is actually a youth worker counselling young street kids about drug use etc. A lot of his raps are a sort of history hence the content. His religious raps are a nod to his belief in higher powers of a sort.

There you go. The interpretation has just widened even more. I like the fact that people see different things in a name, for instance.

Check out our website and download the demos of our songs there. Let me know what you think too.

Maso! I checked it out, I sent you an email. It's FAB - you guys are really good!

Serenity, haven't received the email yet, but I'm sure it will come. I'm really glad you like the songs. I've had such wonderful feedback, I can hardly wait to get the recording mastered and out to the general public. If their reaction is a good as my friend's reactions have been, we might just have a winner on our hands.
