Take a number and wait until you're called.
And a helluva view it is too...

We’ve moved, finally. I am sore in places I’d totally forgotten about. Carrying boxes up a number of steps and back down again is probably the best exercise I’ve had in ages. But it feels great to finally be in our new home. The views from the balcony off our living room are worth every bead of sweat. Mere descriptions of this panorama fail to fulfil the actual view. Simply, it is breathtaking. I will have to get some photos of it and put them up for all to see when I can find the camera. It is packed in a box somewhere but I haven’t found it yet. Ah yes, this is the REAL fun of moving, locating things you know you have but don’t have any clue as to where they might be.

The actual move went very well. It helps that I know the owner of the removalist company. He and his crew have been working with me at the hospital for a number of years now. I trust these guys and knew they would do a good job. They arrived nice and early last Friday (around about 8 am) and had us in the new place by 12:30 pm. I thought it was a fantastic effort, given how many boxes we’d packed (mostly books, by the way), the amount and size of some of our furniture and the amount of steps they had to walk up and down to get to the new place.

I spent the last couple of days sorting through the larger boxes, getting the living room sorted out and doing what I could to empty as many boxes as I could while my wife went to work. I’ve noticed the place is starting to lose the scent of someone else and take on ours instead. Isn’t it funny how such simple things like the scent of a new home can make a person long for their old one? We weren’t sure if the smell would go and had even gotten around to talking about having the place deodorised to get rid of the smell. Now, we don’t even notice it.

Our cat has taken to the place too. She now has a balcony with commanding views of the area, which includes some great birdlife (kookaburras, crows, honey eaters, mynahs and fairy wrens, to name a few). Of course, she can’t get near any of them. The best she can do is look and track them across the sky. The ‘outside’ has never been so close for her. Unfortunately, it is as close as she will get. Apart from the birds, there are skinks and lizards on the grounds. These are just too much temptation for her and I don’t like the idea of her killing something just because she can. So she will stay indoors. I don’t think she really minds as she is now a middle-aged lady and prefers to spend her time lying in sun patches waiting for the next meal to be served. Tough life, what?

Anyway, to all my friends here, I am hoping to be back to my regular blogging habits very soon. Until then, take it easy and be nice to each other.

Good to see you back with us, maso. We've missed you.

glad to hear the move went well, and that you're settling in. You'd better get us these pictures . . .

Knowing the bad view from my house (we live in a desert) I'm already jealous of your view, and that's without seeing any pics yet.

Considering I know how much you loved your last home I'm glad everything is working out well in your new one. Now get back in here and do some blogging.

San Chonino,

Thanks heaps mate. I've missed you guys too. I'm hoping to have some pictures soon but I won't make any rash promises.

Chris,

I love the desert. I lived in the desert here in Australia for about three years. The stars are so bright in the desert sky at night. But I do prefer to live by the ocean. As I said to San Chonino, I will try to get some pictures up as soon as I can.

Good to 'see' you both.

That's what I prefer as well...

Nice to hear you've got good digs and are starting to make it home already.

Man I want that view now! I'm glad you guys have finally done it and are settling in. Nice to see you blogging again. Hello to Toni and you guys do deserve a treat after all that work. [yep, I know her work is not done, a woman's work is never done!]haha

Maso....

So glad to see you here again. You were surely missed. I am glad you and your wife are in and I'm sorry you have to unpack too!

Can't wait for the pictures.

Doc,

Now for the unpacking. Ugh!

Thankfully, most of the unpacking has now been done. The only things left are all our books. We have about 3000 of them, so unpacking these is going to take a little while. Good to see you, mate.

Nicky,

That's what I prefer as well...

You know, I don't think I'd mind it either. Maybe I could push the cat for a little role reversal but I don't think I'll have much luck. I tease her all the time about not having an opposable thumb so she'd probably throw it back in my face

Jennifer1,

Thanks for stopping by.

Trudy,

enjoyed the blog very much

Thanks.

look forward to pics!

I'll try to get them up soon. I still don't know where the camera is, though, so I won't make any promises about when exactly. Thanks for your comments.

Sally,

I've really missed you

You're such a sweety. You know, I really missed you too. You and a few others here. The good news is that I'm just about to buy a laptop with wireless internet so I will be able to blog a lot more regularly and even when some of my friends are online. I'm so looking forward to it, I can tell you.

You never know I may visit one day

And you know you'll have a place to stay for as long as you like.

Serenity,

I'm glad you guys have finally done it and are settling in. Nice to see you blogging again.

Thanks and thanks.

you guys do deserve a treat after all that work. [yep, I know her work is not done, a woman's work is never done!]haha

I think you're right. The best we can hope for at the moment, however, is a quiet weekend. As for work not done, I'll have you know I wear the skirt in our house... Erm, did I type that out aloud? What I mean is that there is a even distribution of labour in our home. Yes, that's what I mean... Good to see you, D.

Doc,

Reverse chauvinism is alive and kicking us in the testicles

Kelly,

So glad to see you here again. You were surely missed

Thanks and thanks to you too. I'm glad we're in as well.

I must say the past few days I've been feeling a bit out of sorts and more than a little cranky. I couldn't really put my finger on why. Then Toni pointed out the bleeding obvious: we've been working our butts off packing and moving, then unpacking and all the stress that goes with it. It will be good to relax this weekend without having to worry about anything. Just the thought of it is improving my mood already.

Good to see you too. The pictures will be forthcoming.

Well, Sal, just let me know when you're going and I'll come, too. Group party at the Mason residence!

('cuz let's be honest, you and me, Sally, that's all the party anyone would ever need! )

Group party at the Mason residence!

Bring it on. I will show you guys how to REALLY party.

that's all the party anyone would ever need!

Oh, someone has tickets they might not be able to cash in, methinks. Remember, I've been playing in rock bands since the early 80s. I've slept through more partying than you've ever done (Yes, I am being deliberately provocative. If it means you guys get it together and visit, then I suppose I'll have to eat my words. But until then BWHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...)

Boy do I HATE moving- seems we used to do it every time the remnt came due, but now I find that I've lived in the same place for fourteen years now! The longest I've lived anywhere.

Heh, one time when I moved years ago a bunch of my friends joined in and we made a party out of it. Have you ever moved furniture and drank and ate BBQ at the same time? Weird, but moving was actually fun that time!

Wished I coulda been there to help! I'd show ya how it was done...
