INTO THE ETHER

Where are my words?
My considered responses,
And the little pieces of wisdom I try to impart
In a single glitch they’re sucked up into the ether
Before I can post them

Will they be like love letters long forgotten
Sitting in an old shoebox
At the back of a cupboard?
Found after years pass?

If these words appear again on my screen
Will I remember them fondly
Smile at hidden meanings
Between the lines?

Will I cringe at their naïve enthusiasm
Or their humourless crassness
And hit the delete key
Putting them to rest forever?

Is there some great omnipotent being
Writing me as I write this
Am I about to be glitched
Into the ether myself?

If I disappear
Don’t mourn me
Just wonder where I might be.

Very, very cool. Wonderful analogy to the wonkiness of the JU experience of late.

It reminds me of my favorite book, Niebla by Miguel de Unamuno (that's Mist for all you english-only kiddies). The main character decides to commit suicide and goes to visit the author to talk about it. Unamuno, the author, explains that Augusto, the main character, can't commit suicide, because he's just a story that Unamuno is writing. But then, Augusto explains that maybe Unamuno only exists so that Augusto's story can exist. In other words, who creates who? Does God create us, or does God only exist because we believe he does? And when that faith goes away, does he cease to exist?

Well, I'm off of my existential tangent now. I liked the poem quite a bit.

Things of magic and mystery, these words we write. Virtual maso? Not so bad, our thirst for your words sated. Thanks.

Death by glitch.

Interesting phraseology!

I like this Mark, as San Cho said, it sums up the wonkiness!

San Chonino,

Thanks very much mate. It was, as you might have guessed, inspired by JU's wonkiness, particularly after I'd written quite a long response to previous comments on another post of mine only to have it 'sucked into the ether', never to be seen again.

Niebla by Miguel de Unamuno

Sounds like my kind of read, mate. Is there an English-translated version?

Don,

our thirst for your words sated. Thanks.

Erm, if I was a drink, I'd probably be a light beer. Still, plenty of people enjoy light beer. Anyway, enough segues for now. Glad you liked the poem

Whip,

Death by glitch. That's a novel thought

Or perhaps even a thought for a novel. Hmmm...

Serenity,

Interesting phraseology

An accident is nothing but a physical glitch, if you think about it. Accidents, imho, are chaos' way of reminding us how fragile we are. At least when a computer glitches, we only lose information.

Shovel,

Hmmm...Verrrrrry interesting

It is a bit spooky, isn't it? I hadn't really thought about it in this respect until both you and Whip said what you did. Now I'm further inspired. Thanks

Yup, it's named Mist and you can find it on places like Amazon. I got the translation for my little sister for Christmas, it seems to be a pretty good translation from the bit I've read . . .

San Chonino,

Thanks for the info. mate. I'm going to go see if I can find it.

Speaking of books Maso, I just borrowed Alan Moore's "From Hell" from the library as per your suggestion. Looks good.

Don,

I hope you enjoy it. It is dense with detail and imagination. Let me know what you think once you're done.

Mark,

It's so cool how you have used little things you have experienced to write some good stuff this week. Keep going! Ride the rush!

Chris,

Thanks again for the support, mate. I have a few more things in the mill so stay tuned.
