BLOOMS OF CHAOS

He signed his name on the wall
While he waited for his world to fall
It didn’t happen as he’d planned
Chaos lent him a bedevilled hand
Turned his want into a need
Changed his envy into greed
It spoke of beauty inside the flower
Of its blossom and its power
He sowed the seed with steady hands
Ignoring all external demands
In time it grew wirey and strong
All else he knew was now long gone
Until he felt it ready to bloom
So he strapped it on and faced his doom
Pressed the button and his world went…

BOOM

Suicide bombers?

You do know how to meter your poetry (I wish I could).

I agree!

KaBoom! I dug this. - thanks

Cool. Them what sow chaos reap chaos.

Besides the suicide bomber, I also had visions of exploding milkweed pods, spreading their seed chaotically.

Loved it.

Shovel,

Thanks, mate.

Doc,

I think I got the meter thing down from writing lyrics for music for years. As for suicide bombers, well, that is one interpretation. There are a few others.

Buddah,

Thank you too. Glad you dug it.

Don,

Them waht sow chaos reap chaos

So true, mate. I like you saw beyond the literal interpretation. There is a deeper meaning here and as a hint, chaos could be a metaphor for growth.

...now you've got me going ...now I'm thinking an electric guitar,

That sort of fits (button, strap, boom) but not quite... don't tell me, don't tell me. I love riddles...even though there's not necessarily a "right" answer.

Wow...pretty powerful, Mark.

I had no idea of the outcome by reading the first few lines. Surprised me.

Don,

Oh, an electric guitar. Hmm, I like it. I can see why you might think it is an electric guitar.

there's not necessarily a "right" answer

Exactly... It is completely up to the reader's interpretation. One of the reasons I didn't like studying poetry (or at least, found it frustrating) was first being told the metaphors used were open to my interpretation but when I interpreted them the way I read them, I was told I was wrong. Used to frustrate the heck out of me.

Rose,

Surprised me

I was kind of hoping it might surprise the reader a little.

Very cool. Poems I like the best are the ones where every reader gets something different from it. In fact, even the same reader could get different interpretations every time they read it.

Here's a couple of interpretations I got. In the video they're mixed together though.WWW Link

Chris,

Watching some of the footage reminded me of seeing time-lapse photography of fungi growing. Kind of reminds me of something I read once that went something like "from the seeds of destruction, civilisation grows." Can't remember for the life of me what it was from, though.

Glad you liked the poem.

Joe,

Good to see you are keen, mate. I'm going to have to think about it. Do you have any suggestions?

someything on the order of...WWW Link

...but I confess I haven't the vaguest idea of what I'd write about! I'm just curious about the other submissions out there...
