Take a number and wait until you're called.

Last weekend, my band did their first ‘tour’ (if travelling for 3 hours to do a single gig and then turning around and coming home can be called a tour). We travelled to the capital of Australia, Canberra, to do a show at a great little venue called Toast. It was exciting, fun and we had a great time on the road, for the most part. I had to do all the driving, which is something I won’t do again. This was due more to poor planning on my part than anything else but I’ve learnt my lesson. Coming back, I had an encounter with a large grey kangaroo but thankfully he got out of the way of the bus just in time.

One of the good things about doing this gig was getting to meet, in real life, someone I’ve know online for a couple of years now. Kenny, or Toblerone, as he is known on Joe User, came along to the show with a lovely friend of his whose name completely escapes me at the moment (sorry, Kenny). The best thing about meeting him in real life is he is every bit as nice, intelligent and funny as his online persona, not that I expected anything less.

This meeting validated my own thoughts on online personalities and friendships and that is these are just as valid as any ‘real life’ friendships we make and keep. I was really pleased to meet Kenny, was very happy to have him come along and see the band and was even more so pleased he actually enjoyed the show (well, at least he didn’t run screaming from the room).

On an exciting note to finish up this, my band had a meeting yesterday with a local venue who would like us to start doing a residency. This means the band will be playing once a week for about three months straight. This will give us an opportunity to build up a local following and hone our stage show down to a tight, energetic performance. I can hardly wait. Today, Maroubra, tomorrow, the world, bwaaahahahahaha…

That is what I like about you.  You never let fame or power go to your head.

! Just as long as you don't try to brainwash us all!!

That's great that you met up with Toblerone! And good news about that gig! Yeah!

That regular gig sounds like an awesome opportunity. Let us know how that progresses! And I think it's great that you got to meet an online friend in person.

Man, it would be awesome if one of us USA JUers could travel down there to Australia to meet ya and see your band in action.

Doc,

Nah, I try to keep a reasonable head on my shoulders. And if that doesn't work, well I have to resort to the one I've got

Serenity,

Brainwash? Me? I thought I already had you under my spell Meeting Toblerone was excellent and it will happen again. As for the gig, well, we're very excited. I will post more details when I know more.

InBloom,

It is indeed an awesome opportunity. A regular gig like this can make a band. I will keep you updated on how its going. As I said, meeting Toblerone was excellent. And the idea of a JUser coming to Australia is fantastic. I'm sure Toblerone, Cacto and I would be more than pleased to put them up, act as tour guide etc.

Congrats! Sounds like fun.

Mason,

yeah, it was a lot of fun although even if I had to do all the driving. Eight hours of driving split with a gig between is not something I normally look forward to doing. Still, the experience was worth it.

Hey Nicky,

So good to hear from you. Hope you and your beautiful daughter have been keeping well.

It was really good to do the road trip although next time I won't be trying to do it all in one night. Getting back home at 6 in the morning after driving for 3 1/2 hours AND having played a hectic, energetic show was not the most fun one can have with their clothes on. Still, I'm glad I did it, even just to say I'm never going to do it again.

Toblerone is a truly nice bloke (and I don't mean nice as a curse either).
