All for a good cause

My darling wife is such a beautiful, giving person but I'm not so sure I could do what she is about to do today.  You see, she put her name down for the 'World's Greatest Shave' charity, which means all her hair will be coming off today.  To see how much hair this is, click on the external link and check out her profile on the charity's site.

She has been growing her hair since the early 90's.  She was single and had very short hair but couldn't figure out why boys wouldn't talk to her.  She found out most boys thought she was gay because of her haircut.  Assumptions really do make asses out of people, don't they?

This charity has significant importance to both of us  The money she raises goes to herlp families of those suffering from leukemia, lymphoma and myelnoma.  My mother suffered through lymphoma for a number of years and I know just how hard it was for her, even though she was able to afford the best treatment.  For those families who are struggling financially, something like this can break their spirits as well as their back accounts.

We also have close friends who are going through some troubling times at the moment.  Their six year old boy has leukemia and is currently undergoing treatment.  This means they've had to leave their two older children in the care of grandparents to travel interstate with their sick boy.  The family will be seperated for some time to come.

So I will be going home to a new woman tonight.  I'm not sure what to expect or how she will look but it won't matter to me.  Long haired, short haired or bald, she will always be the love of my life.

That's quite a bit of hair.

She is pretty giving, eh? Not many women are willing sacrifice their hair.

Lucky man you are, mate.

Indeed it is quite a bit of hair.  She just called me to say she has had it done.  She had to go onstage in front of a large crowd of shoppers and she had photos taken for a number of local newspapers.

I'm not lucky mate, she is

That's fabulous.  Now you'll have to share the after pic.  You are both super lucky to have found each other.

I will definitely get an after picture up as soon as I have one.

You are both super lucky to have found each other

Its why I don't bother buying lottery tickets.  I have never been one to push my luck and in this instance, I got far more than I could have ever bargained for or won.  She truly is one in a million...

You always knew that, mate. Now after sharing her pic and her selfless act we all know it.

I'm not lucky mate, she is

That's how luck you are. She lets you say things like that.

Yes, I did. I've known it for many years. I figured it was probably about time a lot of my JU friends knew this too.

She lets you say things like that.

Well, yes, so long as I am clear I am joking. She might be small but she packs a mean wallop...

She's beautiful inside and out,

Don't I know it.  I still wake up and wonder what I did right

Might as well make some money for a good cause and shave it all at once than have to pick it up off the carpet and furniture every day, hahaha

I know what you mean.  I'm rapidly losing mine too.

Toni and I were laughing about how we'll miss all the stray hair we find in the oddest places.  I'm going to shave mine off too, although it is not so dramatic for me as I do this at least twice a year.  Maybe you could start a similar charity in the US.

I left a comment here but...where'd it go? Anyway, I think I said something like: she's a pretty woman, Maso. And prettier still for the sacrifice she's made.
on Mar 13, 2008

Don't know what happened to your first comment mate.  JU must have connipted...

she's a pretty woman, Maso. And prettier still for the sacrifice she's made.

I will have to post a picture of her as she is now.  I'm still blown away by the difference it has made and how pretty she looks.  She could totally carry being completely bald, I think.

That is amazing.  Such a big heart.  Wow.  Just wow.

BlueDev,

Such a big heart.

Yes, she has. She looks amazing now (not that she didn't before but...) It is going to take a little getting used to though.

If you go to the external link, she has put up photos of her hair coming off yesterday. You'll see what I mean.

That's very caring of her. Cudos to the both of you.

Kelly,

This is so wonderful. She is beautiful inside and out.

If this keeps up, her ego is going to explode But seriously, she is a beautiful lady, even though I might be biased. Everyone I know who knows her thinks the same so it must be true.

Check out her 'after' photos if you haven't already done so.
