Take a number and wait until you're called.

To get to the centre

One has to start at the edge

Be it of a social circle,

A conversation

Or achieving a dream

Its not as though

One can hit the bullseye

Without missing a few

Yet so many try

And believe they’re can

My limited experience

Doesn’t grant me extra powers

More a desire

To remain peripheral

While others rush past

Call me edgy if you want

I’m happy with what I am

Satisfaction comes

Easily and simply

By remembering what I have

So I will stay here

On the edge of everything

Simply satisfied

There is space for us

To keep moving around

Serenity,

Well, I kind of understood the second entry.  Thanks for the compliment.

What the heck happened to Donna's posts? Borked!

Nice poem, mate. And true. I know I prefer the periphery as well. But that's outsiders for you.

But the title made me think of Star Wars (the real Star Wars, not those fake new ones . . . that I still enjoy, just enjoy less. Yes, I'm excited for 'Clone Wars', hate me already), when they're attacking the Death Star, and Gold Leader (well, I think it's Gold Leader - it's been a long while. First thing on my list of movies to watch when I get home) is heading down the canal with his wingmen to put a photon torpedo down the Death Star's butt, and he keeps repeating, 'Stay on target. Stay on target. Stay on target!'

Anyway.

It occurred to me the other day when I was feeling just a tad hungry to just stop a moment and consider that maybe (just maybe!) there's nothing wrong with that feeling. You know -feeling empty and wanting. Maybe, I considered, that's been what's been messing me up for so long: to think that every single time that I feel empty or wanting or a little hungry or a little lacking to just relax and let it be because...there is nothing wrong with that. If fact, maybe it's a God given good state to be in -especially if we just accept it. Heh, the center of the circle! Maybe that's what Heaven is Maso? But before we get there we just gotta learn to love the edge.

In the LDS church, you're asked to fast for a 24-hour period once a month, as a way of showing God that you are in charge of your body, and not the other way around.

Sometimes, it can be an awesome experience; you can learn things about God and about yourself that you can't any other way.

Sometimes, you're just hungry and grumbly until dinner comes.

SanCho,

Thanks mate.  I equate being an outsider with being an open-minded thinker.  I also equate it with one of my childhood favourite books, 'The Outsiders'.  I find it quite coincidental that you've renamed your blog 'For Pony' because the first time I saw it renamed, I thought of Ponyboy, one of the main characters from the book.

As for the Star Wars, well I must admit I've not been a particularly big fan of the last few movies but am wondering how 'Clone Wars' will turn out.  But I do remember the scene from original series you're talking about.  Is it true 'they' are thinking of remaking the first three?

Roy,

It occurred to me the other day when I was feeling just a tad hungry to just stop a moment and consider that maybe (just maybe!) there's nothing wrong with that feeling. You know -feeling empty and wanting. Maybe, I considered, that's been what's been messing me up for so long: to think that every single time that I feel empty or wanting or a little hungry or a little lacking to just relax and let it be because...there is nothing wrong with that. If fact, maybe it's a God given good state to be in -especially if we just accept it.

I agree mate.  There is nothing wrong with being a little hungry in its myriad forms.  I think this is what keeps talented and creative people going.  It is not so much the want to succeed but the hunger to create.  I know I could never stop because the hunger, the urge is always there, propelling me to write the next phrase, sing the next line or play the next bar.

Heh, the center of the circle! Maybe that's what Heaven is Maso? But before we get there we just gotta learn to love the edge.

If there is such a thing as heaven, I think it would be so far from the centre as to be completely off the board.  Maybe this is why so many of those who choose to live 'on the edge' seem so much more at peace with the world and with who they are.  Who knows?  I certainly don't.

I think I would probably be hungry and grumbly.  My metabolism is so fast, I would be weak as a kitten by lunchtime.  I also get migraines if I don't eat properly.  No fun...

Oh Gosh, I forgot my computer had gone paranormal on me!lol!  I don't know why it does that late at nights when I'm sitting at the ocmputer at home and trying to read and response, it just goes heywire and I call it a night! Sorry about that!

But I said I loved your poetry, I think you realised that!

Serenity,

No problems.  And as I said earlier, I understood the second entry.  Thanks for explaining, though.

on Jun 05, 2008

Good stuff, mate

I rather stay on the edge with those open-minded people then be stuck in the middle with ... well you know.

on Jun 06, 2008

Chris,

stay on the edge with those open-minded people

Thanks mate.  The reality is it probably doesn't matter where you are, there is always gonna be some arsehole wanting a piece of you.
