The list of the top 100 films published in Empire's 201st issue. I'm probably the last person to take any notice of these sorts of lists, but I was surprised and amused to see that my wife and I own 33 of these movies and our wish list includes another 34 of them. The asterisked movies are the ones we own. I won't bother you with our wish list movies because by the time we get around to getting them, the list will probably have changed anyway.

Some of the surprises for me were to see some of my personal favouite movies included on the list. I never thought I'd see 'The Big Lebowski' or 'Grosse Point Blank' on a list such as this. But I was even more surprised to see movies such as 'Stand By Me' and 'Evil Dead 2' on the list. Who'd of thought I had as good taste as this? Not me, thats for sure.

There are a few movies not on the list I think should have been included. Movies such as 'Natural Born Killers', 'The Sixth Sense' and 'Trainspotting', to name a few.

So, how about you JU? Do you agree or disagree with the list? Do you think there are some obvious movies they've missed? And what about your collections. How do they hold up against this list?

I now can add another to the ones I own: I picked up a copy of 'Serenity' yesterday. I haven't watched it yet, but am really looking forward to seeing it. Three cheers for Joss Whedon...

Well, the ones I have seen that are on the list I totally agree with. I have a lot to catch up on though.

I don't think I have seen Donnie Darko, or heard of it. I will have to check it out.

Tex; you've certainly got some catching up to do. Can I recommend 'Donnie Darko', 'Magnolia', 'American Beauty' and 'Grosse Point Blank', to start with. These are four of my favourite movies of all time.

Hehe. I am way behind on movies. We catch most new stuff as it comes out on video, but there's a lot of older stuff we've missed. I'll start looking for those. Thanks!

Isn't taste a funny, subjective thing? 'Blade Runner' is probably in my top 3 favourite movies of all time while 'Batman Begins' restored my faith in comic-to-movie adaptations. I really liked a lot. But there you go... As I said, there is no accounting for taste (mine particularly

I have very poor taste in movies. Hehe. I am amused by the stupid things that the critics pan, but usually not all that impressed with the movies that I'm *supposed* to like.

I had to watch Blade Runner in college, so that could be why I didn't enjoy it. Batman Begins...eh...Adrian really enjoyed it. I thought the end was pretty good, but it felt slow to me.

Kelly;

I have to say Donnie Darko is a superb movie, IMHO. Jake Gylenthall is brilliant in it, as is the rest of the cast. It is a bit of an odd movie, but very touching. I'm sure you'll like it.

Tex;

When it comes to all things creative, taste is purely subjective. At least you do know what you like and don't and you're not guided by current fads or trends. I have a recurring nightmare where everything I watch and listen to is guided by 'the charts', whatever they happen to be. It is scary because in the dream, I am continually subjected to period movies starring Kenneth Brannagh and to the music of Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson and people with names like 'Lil Dog' and 'Pacboy'. Eeeeuccchh...

So far, I've seen Batman Begins 4 times and I'm still not bored with it. As for Blade Runner, we can't get it here on DVD as yet. I can hardly wait until it is available, though. Another movie we've just got and absolutely loved is Serenity. If you like scifi, this movie is a must see.
